Nathan Sivin's record of Sun Simiao's life in his Chinese Alchemy: Preliminary Studies (Harvard University Press, 1968), which incorporates an interpretation of the Dan Jing Yao Jue 丹经要诀 ("Essentials of the Scriptures on Elixirs"), introduces a unique touch record of Sun Simiao's life.
